"The GAME of LIFE"

by: Ryan Abad Bliss
(written at the age of 17)

When I stand back and take a look at my life, I notice that it is all a huge chess game.
It is a game in which my opponent is the world and everything I face in my life.
Every day I play my move to position my pieces, trying to reach a desirable outcome.
However, my opponent will always try to find a way to make that difficult.
Either he moves his pieces to block my momentum, or he moves them to counter.
In both cases, he makes my game difficult.
At the moment, I am only in the opening, gaining knowledge about my opponent and studying him.
From what I learn, I will try to figure out a way to gain the upper hand.
By the time I reach the middle game, I will have to use what I have learned in playing against him.
I will also have to start playing harder, play my combinations and try to trick my opponent in order to get a favorable game, or get out of a losing game.
Again, my opponent will try to find a way to make that difficult.
I will not be able to stand back and decide whether or not I have played my game to my liking until I have reached the end game.  Yet, it will not be until my game ends and I am heading to the scoretable that I can look back at my game and decide if I have won....or not.
