Angelie Bliss Ms.D., an award winning Polynesian dancer will be performing Hawaiian hula, Tahitian dance, Maori dance, Poi Dance (fire effect), Middle Eastern Dance, & Tai Chi Chuan during the Forever Young Club’s Special Event “Trip to the Land of Paradise”. The event will be held at Koko's Conference Center - Sand Canyon & Hovenweep Rooms, 2121 East Main, Cortez, CO 81321 on November 12, 2004, Friday, at 6:30 p.m.
Bliss has been awarded 1st Place Solo Hapa Haole - Open Division, 2nd Place Solo Kahiko - Open
Division, 2nd Place Solo Auana - Open Division, 4th Place Solo Pacific Rim Dance - Open Division during the 14th Festival Polynesia Pacific Rim 2003 in B.C., Canada; 3rd Place Solo Vahine Masters Division 2002 Tahiti Fete of Hilo, Hawaii; 2nd Runner-up 1996 Ms. Hula Molokai, Hawaii; 1st Place 1995 Molokai Athletic Carnival, Adult Division; 1996, 1997, & 1998 Famous Poet. She has written several nonfiction self-help books based on her life story which involved the Forever Young Club’s purpose & activities. One of her books is called "Tai Chi for Longevity with Polynesian & Alsharqi Techniques", which she calls “Tai Polyalsh” when she teaches this type of Tai Chi class.
Tai Polyalsh, Polynesian Dance (basic), Tahitian Dance (choreograph) by Angelie Bliss & Belly Dance Basics by Anne Berg workshops will also be given on the same day & place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Anne Berg has been a dancer for 17 years and has been teaching for 10 years. She received her masters in dance choreography this year from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. While there she trained in Movement Analysis, Evans Technique, and Spanish dance. She also studied kineseology and dance pedagogy and performed tap, ballet, modern, Hip Hop, oriental, and African dance. As a Middle Eastern dancer and a choreographer, Anne’s performance and teaching styles draw upon her rich and varied background. This workshop class will be in basic belly dance technique and choreography. For any level of dancer, fundamental movements are sequenced into interesting choreography for practice or performance.
Other performers who will be performing the Middle Eastern dancing are: Shirabella, a professional Middle Eastern dancer & teacher of Cortez; Anne Berg, professional dancer & teacher of Dolores; and Suzan Craig of Dolores. Jessilee Bliss, also known as Lehiwa, a young talented lady who is Angelie’s daughter will be performing the Hawaiian hula. Kiauni Paewai of Mancos will be performing the Maori Haka.
The Halau Hula 'O Anelalani is a dance group of children performing the Polynesian dancing taught by Angelie Bliss. Local children who will be performing are Aja Robbins, Maya Bonde, & Jade Robbins of Mancos; Aspyn Gibbs, Shaunnell Butler, Jayde Butler, Taiesha Trujillo, & Savannah Murphy of Cortez; & Kitty Wallace of Dolores.
